Founded in 1812 the city of Columbus is home to a diverse collection of buildings, sites, monuments and events which define the history & culture of the city. Some of the most visited places of historic importance and popular cultural events are listed as under:
Woodruff Museum of Civil War Naval History: This museum depicts the role of the navy during the Civil War period and is one-of-its-kind in the entire United States. Fort Laurens: Built in 1778 this fort was built to stage an attack on the British. A historical site which also houses a museum. A large park surrounding the museum is an ideal place for picnics and for military reenactments which are a special feature at this historic site.
Palace Theatre: This historic theatre is one of the most preferred destinations for events, plays and dance & drama. Designed on the lines of the Palais de Versailles of France, the Palace Theatre is exquisitely furnised and decorated in authentic French style. Flint Ridge: This site contains quarry pits where the first visitors of Ohio arrived at to get flint for making tools and using it as a trade item. Flint Ridge is one of the most valued archaeological sites in the state of Ohio. The Red Roof Inn Columbus East, Ramada Columbus East Airport and the German Village Guest House are located close to this historic & cultural site.
